Pilates – how aware of your body are you? Surprising facts about Pilates

So what is the difference between Pilates and Yoga? Pilates works more with movement and fluid movement, Yoga will hold poses for longer with more precision.

Pilates works for all ages, levels and ability, and can be adapted and layered throughout your journey. The main focus is your ‘Core’ which is a big group of muscles around your middle including your Pelvic Floor. Think of it as a big corset around your middle. The Pelvic Floor is a wonderful tool, which needs to be engaged but also needs to be relax too, Believe it or not. you need to be able to RELAX as well as engage the right muscles, at the right time. In our session we will explore our Pelvic Floor and what you can do for yourself. It’s really common to have an overactive Pelvic Floor! Who knew!. Pilates works with your strength, flexibility, breath, balance, joint mobility, as well as working on relaxation and stress relief. I real mind/body experience

Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscular balance. Pilates is named for it’s creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises in the 1920’s. It was originally known as Contrology. Pilates first came to London in 1970 and now, is widely recommended by most health professionals.
