Slow Fashion Lancaster – The Art of Individuality
October 19 @ 18:30 - 21:00
Slow fashion is a rapidly growing movement, driven by an increased awareness of the damage done to the environment and the exploitation of people by cheap, disposable and mass produced fast fashion. Slow Fashion Lancaster aims to showcase local talent while promoting sustainability and respect for our planet. The event will show people that buying second-hand reduces waste; that you can make fabulous ‘new’ items of clothing by recycling old ones; and that by spending a bit more on a locally produced, handmade item which will last longer you can help to care for the planet.
This year’s Slow Fashion Show Catwalk will display some of the finest design talent from the local area. It includes designers and makers who are both professional and amateur, from the tailor’s shop to the sewing machine in the spare room. These are small-scale producers who care about the environment, and the objective is to reveal the possibilities which exist through the adoption of the slow fashion ethos. The models are drawn from the local community and represent a cross-section of society with all ages, shapes and sizes to show the true diversity of the general public.
As well as a glass of fizz on arrival and delicious nibbles on every table, there will be entertainment including singers, a poetry reading, and an interpretive dance on the theme of sustainable fashion. At the end of the show, there will be an opportunity to meet the designers and buy items direct from them.
